This tour, which culminates in a visit to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, the southernmost tip of the Cape Peninsula, is probably the most popular of all the Cape Town tours on offer locally. Spectacular natural scenery awaits you on the circular route along the Atlantic and False Bay shores of the Peninsula. Highlights include:

- a visit to a seal colony by boat in Hout Bay,
- the famous Chapman's Peak Drive and its splendid views,
- the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point, and a visit to the Historic Lighthouse

The rich abundance of the winegrowing region of the Western Cape, where both modern and historical  Wine Estates nestle against the backdrop of the lovely Western Cape Mountains, is the main attraction.

If on top of this you love to enjoy fine wines and excellent cuisine you just cannot afford to miss this tour. The wine-growing region of the Western Cape stretches far and wide and is often referred to as “The Boland” (upper country).

For practical purposes however, a day tour of the Cape Winelands has to be aimed at a section of the Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and Somerset West Region, where we visit some of the top Wine Estates of the Western Cape

COMBINED TOUR OF THE CAPE WINELANDS AND CAPE POINT NATURE RESERVE

This tour offers a combination of the main attractions of the Cape of Good Hope Circular Route and the Cape Winelands Circular Route, and includes wine tasting and a visit to the historic town of Stellenbosch.

It is a perfect solution if you are very short of time,  but certainly not a substitute for the individual tours of the Cape Peninsula Circular Route  and Cape Winelands Region.

On a day tour of the West Coast, one can travel as far north as St Helena Bay and Velddrif,  if  time allows. During the spring flower season (normally the second half of August and early September), a visit to the various nature reserves and other areas where an abundance of spring flowers can be enjoyed, is simply a must.

This aside, the West Coast –with its fishing communities, abundance of interesting little bays and fascinating history and prehistory – makes for a really worthwhile day tour all year-round, offering many other attractions , such as:

The extremities of landmasses have always captured our imagination.  To stand at the southernmost tip of the African continent would certainly rank high within the realm of this sentiment. 

Apart from this highlight, the tour takes one over Sir Lowry’s Pass and Houwhoek Pass to Hermanus where, in the whale season (normally July to November), a few moments will be spared for whale watching.

En route to Matjiesfontein we travel through the scenic Du Toit's Kloof Mountain Pass and the fertile Slanghoek Valley. Then on to the historic Michell's Pass to the town of Ceres and its fertile fruit-growing valley. Soon the abundant orchards give way to the arid landscape of the Karoo (the Khoi word for "land of thirst") where vast open spaces stretch from one far horizon to the other. Experience the solitude and serenity so unique to this semi-desert of South Africa. Enjoy lunch in the historic and quaint little village of Matjiesfontein.

The return journey takes us through the Hex River Valley where autumn brings a kaleidoscope of colours to the lush vineyards. In the Breede River Valley we pass the town of Worcester on our way to the Du Toit's Kloof Pass heading back to Cape Town. This more direct return route is also used on the outward journey if insufficient time is available.

Alternatively, we head for the quaint town of  Montagu,  well known for its hot mineral springs, scenic mountains, vineyards and orchards, and the  exceptional quality of the apples, pears, apricots and peaches grown in the Koo Valley.

If you do not have the time to travel to one of Southern Africa's major game parks then do not miss this opportunity. When in Cape Town you will be within easy reach of Fairy Glen, Aquila, Inverdoorn, Buffelsfontein and Sanbona Private Game Reserves.

Travel with us to one of these reserves on your own private excursion in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle with the opportunity to stop where you want to. If time allows you may even indulge in some wine tasting on the way back if and when the opportunity arises.

Though not to be compared with the large game reserves of southern Africa these private reserves offer wonderful game viewing opportunities from safari vehicles. Experienced game rangers share their knowledge and you will have the opportunity to spot the famous Big Five: elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo, leopard and more, such as giraffe, zebra, hippo and many antelope species. After a scrumptious buffet lunch we return to Cape Town, enjoying the lovely country scenery.

From Matjiesfontein, we head deeper into the Great Karoo for a further 130km to reach the high plateau of the Roggeveld, where the town of Sutherland is situated at an altitude of 1458 metres. Sutherland is the home of SALT, situated even higher, the largest single optical telescope in the southern hemisphere and proudly called "South Africa's Giant Eye". At an altitude of 1759m the atmosphere is thin here, the air is crystal-clear and in this arid region cloud-cover is infrequent.

For these reasons this site has gained international status as one of the world's foremost stations for astronomical observation. The onsite guided tour and fascinating observations will leave even the less knowledgeable visitor with new insights, broadening their perspective forever. 

The return journey can be made via the breathtaking Seweweeks Poort and the beautiful Little Karoo.

Unless otherwise stated prices exclude refreshments, lunches, wine tasting, entrance fees, ferry and boat trips, Table Mountain Aerial Cable Way and the funicular at the Cape Point Nature Reserve.

A half-day outing equals four hours – add R250 for every additional hour.

Time does not permit us to include all the highlights mentioned in the itineraries in one single day. Please discuss your special interests with us and we will plan accordingly.

Prices quoted are for tours guided in English or Afrikaans. For tours in any other language add R1200 to the prices quoted.

If for any reason we have to cancel a booked tour, which we've never had to do up to now, we will assist a client to find another operator but cannot guarantee a price as competitive as our quoted price.
